Spay/Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP)
The Animal Outreach Spay/Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP) is designed to provide a low cost spay/neuter option for individuals and families who are currently receiving public assistance in central Ohio. Individuals interested in using the SNAP program must complete an application and submit proof of public assistance as well as the appropriate fees. SNAP is a voucher program that allows qualified individuals to have their pets altered at a designated veterinary clinic. Currently, all vet clinics are in the Columbus area.

How does SNAP work?
Using SNAP is easy! Follow the steps below:
1) Determine if you are eligible for the program.
SNAP is open to anyone who is currently receiving public assistance in Central Ohio. Public assistance includes OWF/TANF/ADC Cash Assistance, Food Stamps, Unemployment Assistance, and Social Security Disability Income (SSDI).
2) Complete an application.
The application covers basic contact information, eligibility requirements, fees and information about your pet(s). You will also need to provide proof of public assistance for the past 30 days.
The following proof will be accepted:
- Letter from Case Manager
- Copy of most recent statement
SNAP fees:
- Cats: $10 for the first cat and $5 each additional cat
- Dogs: $20 for the first dog and $10 each additional dog
3) Mail the completed application, proof of assistance, and the appropriate fees to:
Animal Outreach, P.O. Box 892, Westerville, Ohio 43086.
Please allow 2-3 weeks for delivery of your voucher(s).
4) Once your application, proof of assistance, and fees are received, we will mail you a voucher for a spay/neuter surgery at a designated veterinary clinic.
Vouchers are valid for a period of 60 days. It is your responsibility to call the veterinarian listed on the front and make an appointment for your pet. To make sure that you are able to schedule your pet’s surgery within that time frame, please call the clinic as soon as you receive the voucher(s). If you do not use the voucher before the expiration date, you will have to re-apply.
You will not have to pay anything to the veterinary clinic for the cost of the surgery. However, you are responsible for transporting your pet to the clinic and picking him or her up, as well as for any additional costs that may be incurred (shots, flea treatment, etc.).
